A comfortable and stylish early 20th century Japanned lacquer cane bergere sofa, decorated in gilt and coloured lacquer with a central scene to the back of two oriental female figures, the rest with butterflies, leaves, flowers and other motifs, on cabriole front legs with claw and ball feet.

With its original very squishy and comfortable down filled cushions.

Stripped back to calico, ready for a new top cover.

Provenance:

From a property in Belgravia, London.

Condition:

The cane on the right hand edge of the left back panel has broken on the extreme edge (approx 30 cm) , and there are a few loose canes to the right hand edge of the back in the corner (looking straight on at the sofa). Otherwise good and still perfectly usable with a lovely patination and light wear to the lacquer. See images.

Dimensions:

88 cm high (seat height 44 cm) x 202 cm wide x 87 cm deep.
